Jodechi has been using methods similar to ‘Cognitive Behavioural Therapy’ (CBT) for many years. Now as a qualified practitioner Jodechi understands the powerful impact some of these techniques can have on helping empower people back to health and wellbeing.
Jodechi is having great success with people with different types of ‘dis-ease’ such as depression, low self-esteem, anger and many types of phobias ranging from agoraphobia – one woman hadn’t left her home in almost 11 years - to another client with OCD: Obsessive Compulsive Disorder struggling under a weight of repetitive tasks and hindering a normal life. Jodechi now reports that both are doing well and living full and unfettered lives.
Many wrongly assume that CBT is just another ‘positive thinking’ fad – in fact Jodechi’s aim is not just to teach the client to think positively but to help teach her to think realistically. When things go seriously wrong in one’s life it would be somewhat strange to take a wholly positive view of the situation and be pleased by it. Using CBT, Jodechi would help to put the situation into a realistic perspective without taking away the seriousness of it.
Jodechi is convinced that in many instances emotions and behaviour are determined by thinking and that emotional disorders result from negative and unrealistic thinking and that by altering these patterns emotional disturbance can be reduced or eliminated.
CBT is based on the idea that our interpretation of an event is crucial; many people wrongly assume that other people or unfortunate circumstances are directly responsible for the unpleasant way they feel.
Take for example, the case of public speaking. Three speakers may give the same talk which is equally received by the audience. One speaker may notice the applause and be pleased about the way she performed. The second speaker might feel depressed because he thought that the audience was only clapping to be polite, and that actually they were bored. The third speaker might feel angry because she had put a great deal of effort into preparing the talk and she thought that the audience was not sufficiently appreciative.
Therefore, it is clear that the same event may lead to a range of emotions depending on how the event is interpreted and evaluated. Jodechi therefore integrates many of the CBT techniques into her daily working practices, while staying faithful to her central philosophy of treating the person as a whole rather than trying to treat the symptoms of an illness.
Jodechi would like to leave you with the words of the first century philosopher Epictetus, that really sums up the central tenet of CBT: ‘Men are disturbed not by things but by the views which they take of them’.

"These last three years have been long and diffcult for me, as I have suffered from severe depression, high blood pressure and personal difficulties. Jodechi has helped me by using her healing skills and her deep understanding of trauma and people's illnesses. I was in total despair and had no respect for my life. Jodechi is truly gifted and the impact of my healing, counselling and CBT sessions have meant that I am now living a happy whole life in the true sense now. My body and soul are healing and I cannot thank her enough for her strength, wisdom, encouragement and the hands on healing all of which have enabled me to appreciate the gift of life once again."

"I used to have severe panic attacks where I was terrified to leave home because I thought I would panic and something terrible would happen to me. This affected my relationship with my wife and children and it was so bad that I could no longer go to work on the train or drive my car. I was a prisoner. Jodechi helped me with this by using cognitive behavioural therapy and her healing. The deep breathing technique is what I use now to calm myself when I feel uncomfortable. She is amazing."
